Zoning Interpretation Application
The Maywood Comprehensive Plan is a long-term document that will be used by elected and appointed officials, community leaders, residents, property and business owners and developers as a guide for planning and development decisions over the next 10 to 20 years. The Planning Division works to ensure that all interested and qualified individuals have access to quality housing in the Village through fair housing practices, requiring landlord registration and participating in the West Cook County Housing Collaborative, as explained below.
Equal housing opportunity for all persons, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, familial status, marital status, or disability, is a fundamental policy of the Village of Maywood.
Every landlord is required to register with the Village and must renew their registration annually no less than 30 days prior to the expiration date of the currently valid license. All licenses expire on December 31st. Licensing is not transferable from one landlord to another upon change of ownership. Any change in management or transfer of title resulting in a change of landlord or management of a property shall require a new and separate registration within or 30 days after possession of ownership.
West Cook County Housing Collaborative
The West Cook County Housing Collaborative allows the municipalities of Maywood, Bellwood, Berwyn, Forest Park, and Oak Park to work together to address the pressing housing needs of their areas, from foreclosure response to affordable housing to strategic and sustainable development.
The Village of Maywood’s Department of Community Development holds Housing Court and hears a wide range of cases involving violations of municipal ordinances that were once heard in the Cook County Circuit Court. Hearings at the Village Council Chambers expedite resolutions, reduce litigation expenses and are more convenient for residents and visitors who wish to contest a ticket or other citation. An administrative hearing is a civil, not a criminal proceeding. Cases are punishable by fines and a variety of other penalties, excluding jail time. Under the administrative hearing system, an Administrative Law Judge, not the Village entity that issued the ticket, complaint or notice of violation, hears cases. Law Judges, all of whom are experienced attorneys, are required to undergo state-mandated training to be professional, fair and courteous. The administrative hearing hears, or may hear in the future, the following types of cases:

|Overflowing garbage dumpsters
||Unsanitary food businesses
||Outdated food products
|Lead paint in buildings with minors

Administrative Hearings Procedure
A Village code enforcement officer, building inspector, parking enforcement officer, investigator or police officer may issue a ticket or notice of violation, or file a complaint against an individual. A case also may be initiated following a citizen or community complaint. If you receive a citation, complaint or notice of violation ordering you to appear at a hearing before the court, you or your representative must be present on the date and time specified. If English is not your first language, you must bring someone to assist you.
A parking citation will give you an option to request a hearing. If you choose to request a hearing, follow the instructions for requesting a hearing stated on your citation. You may also contest a parking citation in writing or online without appearing in person.
