Village of Maywood Welcomes Our New Police Chief

Chief Elijah Willis is a 21-year veteran of the Maywood Police Department.  Willis was appointed to Chief of Police after serving as the Deputy Chief since 2014.  His staff describes him as a commanding presence of a leader, of few but firm words when necessary.

After 36 years, Chief Willis continues to serve his country as a Command Sergeant Major of the United States Army Reserves out of Southfield, Michigan.

Residents can reach Chief Willis at the Maywood Police Department at (708) 450-4460.  The Maywood Police Department is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year by calling 911 in an emergency. The Village welcomes Chief Elijah Willis to his post of duty as we Move Maywood Forward Together.

The Role of the Police Chief:

The role of the Police Chief is to ensure professional policing of the community and an efficiently run department that is responsive to the needs of the community.

Police Chief Community Input

The Village of Maywood invites the community to provide input on the selection of Maywood's next Chief of Police. Community members may attend a presentation from the Chief of Police candidates on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, starting at 5:30 PM. This presentation will not include a question and answer segment. Community members are requested to provide input regarding the important qualities and strengths needed in the new leader of the Maywood Police Department.

Please email your comments to selection-process@maywood-il.org. The selection committee will respond to all emails that are sent with confirmation of receipt.

The goals of the Maywood Police Department are as follows:

  1. Reduction of Crime by (5%) Percent.
  2. To become more customer friendly, improving the image of the Maywood Police Department.
  3. To improve the morale of the Maywood Police Department Members.
  4. To increase enforcement through strategic operational programs.
